NEW YORK — VOCAL-US applauds a lawsuit filed today by The National Alliance to End Homelessness and Women’s Development Corporation that challenges Trump’s “new funding restrictions that unlawfully condition access to federal housing grants.” In response, VOCAL-US released the following statement from Jawanza Williams, Director of Movement Building for VOCAL-US:

“The Trump administration is violating the law, and making it harder for communities across the country to end our homeless crisis. More people are sleeping on the streets than ever recorded. High rents, low wages and the recent dramatic loss in jobs means homelessness will rise. Our communities need real solutions, not political games.

This administration seems to be in an ideological crusade against policies that actually work. Cutting off federal resources to meet the Trump administration’s agenda is an aggressive assault on the already insufficient social safety net, and a direct attack on poor and working-class residents of this country. As a nation, we must acknowledge that the ultimate consequence of homelessness is premature death.”
